Three things a retirement message can do

It can thank them for something real, it can say what the workplace will miss, and it can wish them a good next chapter. You do not need all three; one done well beats three done vaguely. The years of service and a workplace name help most in the builder.

Writing on a group card

Many people sign one card, so repeat nothing: if the line above you thanks them for their mentoring, write about the lunches instead. Keep the funny lines kind, and leave age jokes out.
